I love North Carolina. I have lived here all of my life, and I plan on living here forever. It is a great place. Nice weather, beautiful scenery, lots to do and a decent economy. And it is getting better now that North Carolina has started to go green and people are noticing. Many people are choosing North Carolina as their spot to retire to or relocate to.
One of the things that makes North Carolina so great is that we have a very responsible idea of how we should take care of the planet. We are all about reusing and recycling and we have become very good stewards of the environment. We embrace the trends that help to create a better, greener world whether it is in building, energy, or the environment.
The USGBC, or the United States Green Building Council considers four areas to be of utmost importance in protecting the environment.
- water usage
- recycled or sustainable materials
- energy usage
- a healthy indoors
North Carolina has embraced these throughout the state and it has made North Carolina an incredible place to live. Some of the projects that we are proud of include:
- The Philips residence where they used rammed earth walls as well as an environmentally friendly radiant heating system
- The hugely impressive Eco-dorm built at Warren Wilson College
- The Brown and Jones Architecture firm’s building which was renovated from an abandoned building
We are very serious about green building practices in North Carolina and as you can see from the list above it is not just big businesses. Individual residences are also taking up green construction practices and building green, responsible, sustainable houses that use less energy and are better for the environment. The North Carolina government even got into the act and all government buildings are now environmentally friendly which has saved the tax payers considerable money.
All this to say, when you are looking for a place to relocate, think about North Carolina. Our beautiful scenery, nice climate, good jobs, and our place as a green leader should earn us a place on your list of possibilities. And we think that if you visit, you just might not want to leave. Especially when you consider that the energy efficiency of many of our houses here will make it even more affordable for you to live in our beautiful state!
So, go ahead and plan your visit. We will show you the Southern hospitality that we are famous for and you can judge us for yourselves.
